@ Shikoh - First thing first. What I do (that you find quite interesting :) is freelance writing. It's not easy and it involves all hours - at least for me and will for you too as we're on this side of the globe and most of the online work I get is on the other side.

Marc is right. You are good enough! You're a marketer, you already know that. Follow marc's advice and you're good to go. Start a blog. Doesn't necessarily have to be about writing. Can be anything that showcases your writing skills. Then look into sites like elance.com and guru.com to get your start. Follow blogs that post jobs several times a week. Keep a track on industry blogs. Read Copyblogger, problogger, menwithpens, freelanceparents, etc.

Hope you get your visit visa soon! I'm confident you'll get a marketing job in UAE. Things are tough here recruiting wise, but not as tough as the media makes it out to be. I still see ads for marketing jobs in monster gulf, naukri.com etc.

Follow Marc's advice. He's spot on.

@ Marc - Since I live away from my home country I'll be taking at least one break every year. And since both my husband and I love to travel, that will be another break whenever we can afford it. Just got back from a 10 day trip to India.

As for my blog - I keep trying to find a posting schedule that suits me and attracts readers. I also have these grand plans for a wordpress theme that isn't as bland and sucky as this one.

Btw, I love your blog!

A break? What's a break ;)

A week is nothing really. I think most people will just accept that other things can get in the way; "Samar is just busy, she's got other things to do, clients to attend to".

It's when you start going longer periods of time such as a month that people will begin to think "worse".

Heck I have a blog that I haven't posted to in 5 months. Didn't effect my readers though as there were only two I know of and I'm still in touch with them LOL

@Shikoh The best thing to do is to grab a blog and start writing. If you want to work as an online writer then you will absolutely need one. Think of it as your own portfolio, your own examples of work.

As you're still unsure I'd recommend going to WordPress.com and grabbing a free blog. Then just start writing.

Are you good enough? Of course you are, stop making excuses and go for it :P

Seriously, there are freelance writers out there that have no marketing skills or expertise what-so-ever and they are doing just fine. So you're already ahead of the game.

<abbr><em>Marc - WelshScribe’s last blog post..<a href="http://welshscribe.co.uk/2009/04/29/why-keeping-busy-can-stall-your-freelance-career/">Why Keeping Busy Can Stall Your Freelance Career</a></abbr></em>

Hey,

Ive been following you in twitter (sasj316) and I find this stuff you do quite interesting :p. I was hoping if you could guide me a bit as to how to start something similar on my own. Ive always been into writing, wrote research papers a few years back as well till I realized it was kinda unethical. Frankly, Ive never been into blogs either, Just articles related to business, advertising, marketing and a bit of creative writing. Ive read stuff online related to working from home, but most of it is either fake or too doctored and so far I've been unable to gauge the amount of dedication required or whether I am good enough to pursue this full time. I am a marketer by profession and looking for work in the UAE but am currently in Pakistan awaiting my visit visa (was born and raised in the UAE). Guess thats it. Feel free to reply (or not, no issues at all :p).

Regards,
Shikoh.
